G.G.C. v Wiltshire Match at High Post GC on Friday 26th August 2022.
We all gathered on a warm bright sunny day and were greeted by Paul Bell the High Post Captain 2022 who told us a little regarding the course after which we sat down to sandwiches and chips prior to the announcement of the pairings. Although not playing, match manager Clive, travelled do the honours.
Game 1 Ian and myself were paired with Jim Donald Wiltshire Captain and Paul Bell a 4 handicap golfer who showed his class on his own course. The course was in fine condition with undulating fairways and greens that ran very true. We had a great game and remained all square with three holes to go only to lose 16 and 17 and lose the game 2-1.
Game 2 Vice-Captain Geoff and Eric suffered the same fate playing really good golf but losing out 2-1.
Game 3 Cotswold Hills pairing immediate Past Captain Sam and partner John brought back a bit good news with a win 5-4 over match secretary Colin a very funny Northern Irishman and partner David.
Game 4 Cirencester and Ross on Wye pair of Mark and Phil fought right to the end only to lose the 18 and lose 1 down to Pat and Andy.
Game 5 Chipping Sodbury and Lansdown pairing of Paul Mason and Neil Pirie inflicted a bit of a drumming to Wiltshire’s Terry and Don winning 6-5 but reporting a very good game with a number of birdies.
Game 6 Alan and John Lansdown and Cotswold Hills paired up together to do battle with Gary and Martin but unfortunately the home side prevailed 4-3.
Game 7 Painswick President Brendon and Richard from Cleeve Hill reached an honourable half with their opponents Adie and Richard.
Game 8 Last but by no mean least came Ian and Keith Minch and Cotswold Edge but sadly the same outcome was forthcoming losing to John and David 3- 2.
This gave the home team victory by 5½ -2½.
As usual there was a lot of banter going on during the delicious meal. Jim and I both thanked High Post’s staff for looking after us so very well during the day and we drudged home defeated but not deflated.
