Gloucestershire Golf Captains
GGC v Wiltshire Captains Match at Brickhampton Court GC on Tuesday 8th August 2023.
The Gloucestershire Golf Captains met up at Brickhampton Court GC and looked forward to a good match against Wiltshire Golf Captains. The weather was warm and breezy with the course presented in very good condition and our thanks go to the green staff.
The match secretaries read out the pairings during a light lunch.
Brickhampton Court Captain Jonathan Viney and I were paired with Witshire Captain Ian and his playing partner Peter.
We had a close first 9 holes, but Jonathan and I kept the pressure on and we managed to win 2-1.
President Mike Slatter and J.Leathem-Pugh lost 4-3, and Vice-Captain Eric Millard and Phil Payne had a good game and came in with a half.
John Dymock and partner Clive Fluck went down 4-3, then Paul Drinkwater and Geoff Anderson lost 2 down.
Shaun Pearce and partner Clive Reynolds also lost 2 down and were followed by Alistair Harvey and Sam Collins losing 3-2.
Our last pairing of Graham Richings and Keith Ashenhurst also sadly lost 2-1.
Overall result - Match Lost 1½ - 6½ Trophy Won by WGC.
We then sat down to a very enjoyable Roast Dinner followed by Eton Mess. I passed on our thanks to the members and management of Brickhampton Court GC for facilitating our event.
Both Captains did the formal speeches and, as WGC won the match, the new trophy introduced this year was presented to Wiltshire Captain Ian.
