Chipping Sodbury GC Club Captain 1976

We received the sad news that Norman passed away on Tuesday 17th May 2022.

Norman was a wonderful man with a wicked sense of humour. He generously provided The Gloucestershire Golf Captain's Holiday Chalice in 2001 which is played for each year, by the Past Captains, and in the early years was always there with us.

He will be very much missed by all who knew, played golf, or spent time with him. He attended many South West Weeks and was a great supporter of the Gloucestershire County Team in The Channel League and Wessex League fixtures, for many years.

His passion for his beloved Chipping Sodbury Golf Club was legendary and all who knew him will miss his presence whenever they visit the Club.

Not only club captain in 1976, Norman held the following roles over his years involved with the game:

Captain of Gloucestershire Golf Captains (1986)

President of Gloucestershire Golf Captains (1996-97)

President of Chipping Sodbury GC (1999-2009)
President of The Gloucestershire Golf Union (2003-04)

A true gentleman at all times with a hearty welcome and smile, together with the offer of a drink. He will be missed by so many of us and our thoughts are with his wife Jean at this time.

Norman’s Funeral took place at Westerleigh Crematorium, Westerleigh Road, Bristol BS37 8QP.

Afterwards all were welcomed at Chipping Sodbury GC, Trinity Lane, Chipping Sodbury. BS37 6PU to share happy memories with family and friends.

‘The flag that hung half-mast today seemed animate with being; as if it knew for whom it flew and no more will be seeing’

Betjeman.
