G.G.C. v Somerset Match at Knowle GC on Tuesday 18th May 2021.

Result – Match Lost  2 ½ to 5 ½.

Sixteen of our number met up at Knowle on a changeable morning for our first inter county match for some considerable time. At stake the winning back of the SOMERGLO TROPHY inaugurated in May 1996 and presented by a Mr R Arberry.  Sadly, we failed in our objective.

Despite heavy rain over lunch, we teed off in front of our beautiful new banners in glorious sunshine. The weather was kind to us throughout. We were lucky as it returned again with a vengeance during dinner.

​

We recorded two very good wins with Dereck Buttler & Bill Hole, giving numerous shots, prevailing 4&3 and John Cumming, in his first active role as Match Manager, with Colin Stokes doing even better in winning 5&3.

Paul Mason & Dave Sturman managed to salvage a half but all other pairs were beaten. These included your Captain playing with Mike Jeffery this year’s Captain of Knowle playing off 6. We went down 2&1 in a match of some less than scintillating play, 2 holes being halved in 7 shots!

We were very well looked after by the staff at Knowle. The catering & bar service being excellent. The course was, as expected after a long lay-off, in very good condition. Luckily for me some bunkers were GUR! I asked Mike to pass on our thanks to the members and management for facilitating our event.
