Captain's Corner

Fellow GGC Captains

It is a great privilege and honour to become your Captain for the forthcoming golfing season. I will do my upmost to represent you all to the best of my ability.

In 2007 I was captain at The Kendleshire, our then president Clive Farrow, who I’m sure some of you will remember, said to me, "Eric, you must join the Gloucestershire Golf Captains", what great advice, and I have since enjoyed all these years in the Association.

It was a real pleasure to work with our outgoing President Mike and Captain Geoff, who both did superb jobs in representing the GGC throughout their time in the role.

I must mention our Honorary Secretary who is always there to give us guidance and help with any matters regarding the GGC. Many thanks to Jim for his continued support.

I also look forward to working with our 2024 President Paul and 2024 Vice-Captain Trevor over the coming year. I know we will make a great team.

The Match Managers, John & Clive, are doing a sterling job in selecting the teams for the inter-county matches. They continue to give everyone who has signed up for a match as much opportunity to play as is possible, providing notification of selection of the match well in advance of the match date. It’s quite a task ensuring that we have a well prepared team for every match on our busy fixture list and I urge you that, if you have put down for a match but find you are no longer available, then please inform our Secretary and Match Mangers as soon as possible.

I wish Ian Hughes, our County President, and Ian Watkins, the EG President,  a very successful and enjoyable year in their prestigious roles.

To all new Captains and those who may like to renew the experience of the “Ladies Weekend at Carlyon Bay” in early October, please join us this year. We stay at a lovely 4-star hotel where they provide an excellent service. We play competitive golf for all and have some fun, coupled with entertainment for the non-golfing partners. It's a great weekend, so give it a try!

I sincerely hope to see you all at some point during the season and I’m especially looking forward to welcoming you to my “Captain’s Day” at Ross-on-Wye GC on Thursday 18th July 2024.

Lastly, I wish you all a happy and enjoyable golfing year and I look forward to meeting as many of you as I can.

Eric Millard

Captain 2024
