G.G.C. v Oxfordshire Match at Gloucester GC on Thursday 21st July 2022.
A rather cloudy but warm day greeted us as we arrived and a lunch of sandwiches and chips was followed by a welcome greeting from Rich Wood 2022 Captain of Gloucester GC alon with the announcement of the teams by match manager Clive and Oxfordshire Captain Rob.
Game 1 was contested by Rich Wood and myself versus Oxfordshire Captain Rob and his partner Mike. Rich was on fire as he won the first after I managed to lose my brand new Pro V1, I know not where. Rob and Mike both lost their balls as well. In total we lost a total of 17 balls between us. The rest of the round went in our favour eventually taking victory on 13 winning 7-5. This was the first loss that Rob had under gone this year.
Game 2 saw GGC President Rex and Past President Ian taking on Tadmarton pair of Tim and Ian. Rex said they were 1 up on the 18 but because it had been a good match they decided to halve the game.
Game 3 was home club pairing of Gloucester GC President John and his partner also John beating Oxfordshire pair of Richard and Mark 2up. However, President John changed into shirt tie and blazer but NO Trousers stating I don’t know how Gaynor forgot to pack them.
Game 4 was the pairing of Cotswold Hills Clive and Lansdown Alan they took on Robert who was a plus handicap and played for GGU County first team at one stage, and Ray and I believe that they may have been talked to death by Robert who is renowned for it, losing 1 down.
Game 5 was the Cotswold Hills pairing of match manager Clive and partner John, they gave their opposition of Dave and Glyn a bit of a trouncing winning 5-4.
Game 6 Painswick and Gloucester were the next pair where Brendon and Paul took on Oxfordshire Ray and Mike and going down after a titanic battle 3-2.
Game 7 Phil Payne was a very late replacement only being contacted at 10:00AM but he and Cotswold Edge partner Theo beat Oxfordshire Vice-Captain Keith and his partner Richard finishing 1 up.
Game 8 Gloucester GC pairing of Don and Trevor defeated Ken and Mike by 1 hole.
This gave us a win by 5½ to 2½ well played boys unfortunately there isn’t a trophy to be played for.
Our thanks must go to Gloucester GC for allowing us to hold the match there, to the green staff although the course was very dry the greens were superb. To Keith Woods general manager and the club house staff for providing a great Chilli followed by Banoffee cheese cake. The match and camaraderie was enjoyed by everyone.
