Gloucestershire Golf Captains

The Gloucestershire Golf Captains had quite a journey to Oxfordshire and met up at Drayton Park GC, looking forward to a good match against Oxfordshire Golf Captains. The weather was warm and sunny, and the course was looking in good condition.

The match secretaries read out the pairings during a light lunch while the sun shone down outside.

​

We finished our lunch and everyone proceeded to get ready for the tee off at 1pm to start the match.

​

I was paired with Henbury Club Captain Dave Leydon and played against Oxfordshire Captain Keith Henley and his partner. We had a very close match but sadly lost on the last hole.

​

President Mike Slatter and Nick Broady won 2 up, followed by Trevor Stewart and Jim Ford who won 3-2.

​

John Dymock and partner Clive Fluck lost 2-1, and they were followed in by Phil Hall who had to play his match without a partner and lost 3-1 but a great effort by Phil.

​

Mark Anderson and Richard Salter unfortunately lost heavily 7-6.

​

They were followed in by Colin Stokes who had to play his match without a partner, and he won his match 2-1, well played Colin.

​

Our last pairing of Paul Wilson and Dave Sturman won 3-2.

 

Overall result - Match Halved.

We then sat down to a very enjoyable Roast Dinner and Very large pudding.

​

Both Captains did the formal speeches, thanking Drayton Park GC members and staff for accomodating the event and keeping us fed and watered.

 

GGC had won the 2022 match therefore retained the new trophy introduced this year which was presented to me by the Oxfordshire Captain Keith.
