Gloucestershire Golf Captains

The Gloucestershire Golf Captains met up at Chipping Sodbury GC and looked forward to a good match against Devon Golf Captains.

The weather was warm and a bit humid and the course was presented in very good condition. Our thanks go to all the green staff for their continued hard work.

The match secretaries read out the pairings during a light lunch.

​

I was paired with Chipping Sodbury Club Captain Kevin Ell and played against Devon Captain Phil Webb and his partner Keith Thomas. We had a very close match and ended up halving on the last hole.

​

President Mike Slatter and Mark Anderson won convincingly 4-3, followed by Vice-Captain Eric Millard and Jim Ford who had a very tough game and lost 2 down.

​

John Cumming and partner Alan Veitch had a huge 7-5 win, and they were followed in by Colin Stokes and partner Peter Ball who sadly lost 3-2.

​

Trevor Stewart and Richard Salter won 1 up, followed by Dave Sturman and Terry Davis who won 2-1.

​

Our last pairing of Patrick Brooke and Ian Smith sadly lost 2-1.

​

Overall result - Match Won 4½ - 3½.    Trophy Won by Gloucestershire Golf Captains.

We then sat down to a very enjoyable Steak Pie and Veg followed by Chocolate Brownie and Ice Cream. I passed on our thanks to the members and management of Chipping Sodbury GC for facilitating our event.

Both Captains did the formal speeches and, as Gloucestershire won the match, the trophy introduced this year was presented to me by Devon Captain Phil.
