The usual banter was rife as we prepared for the annual Ladies match ... 

 

  • Will we play off whites or maybe even competition blue??

  • How high will the handicaps go???

​​

We were saved when Jane Barrett (Ladies Captain) very kindly offered for us to play off yellows, with only the normal course equalisation shots.  A little more relaxed we enjoyed our bacon butty and set off into the sunshine on a glorious afternoon at Cotswold Edge.

​

The matches mostly were very tight, with one heavy defeat inflicted by the Ladies ... apparently Ladies off twenty plus should not play to four over on the front nine! Our lads did well to hang on until the 14th!!

​

As for a tight match Ken Rawcliffe and Robin Hannigan held their nerve and squeaked a half from being dormy 4 down.

​

All the matches were played in good spirit with a  few generous gimmes. Tony Davis and Tony Gough played the highly rated pairing of Corrine and Nora and had a good win 1up.

 

Our Lydney pairing, Alan Robinson and John Mills, also had a win as did John Barrett and Trevor Hole ... the Lady Captain not being best pleased as John is her husband!

 

Pat White and Geoff Anderson, Eric Millard and John Nation both finished winners ... really good to see some new names in the team.

​

That just leaves Sam Collins and I leading from the front three up after four on level par, how could it go wrong! Well a certain young lady, Muriel,  playing off about twenty found her five wood and had a cracking game and we were forced to take a disappointing defeat.

 

The final result finishing at GGCs 5 ½ Ladies Captains 2 ½.

Many thanks to our organiser Ian Cornwell, who, seeing how stressed Ladies Captain Jane was after having got her team there, collected all the monies and organised the meals, I am very very grateful Ian. It was good to see you there and we all hope the op goes well.

​

Thanks  also to Cotswold Edge and your staff, we had a lovely round on a very well prepared course, great food plus an excellent cheese board it’s very much appreciated.
