GGCs v Worcestershire Captains - Friday 22 September 2017
Brickhampton Court Golf Club
Result
Once again we were privileged to play one of the great courses in our county.
Brickhampton did us proud, with a well presented course and superb food both before and after the match.
We must thank their members and management for such a lovely day.
The match which is played for a very large trophy, was as tight as it could get.
Leading from the front I went out with Nick Broady only to find we were one down after nine, despite being one over gross. We battled on, Nick winning the index one giving shots all round with a wonderful shot to the green from 200 yards to three foot (wedge I think!!!!). However when their man Clive hit a seven iron to two foot on the seventeenth a very tight game was gone. 2 and 1. Worse news was to come with the next two teams losing, it was nearly all over but then a halve from Alan and Peter (thanks for playing at such short notice Peter and pleased you enjoyed it) felt like a win, and indeed the tide turned with Mel and Phil our Tewkesbury boys, plus the next three games all winning.
The final resul being GGCs 4½ Worcestershire 3½. I was a very Proud Captain.
Thank you team, thank you organisers, and thanks Glos RFC. Warriors winning would have ruined my day.
