GGCs v Cornwall Captains  -  Friday 13 October 2017
Perranporth Golf Club
Result

Well what a course these Cornish lads presented us with ... Perranporth a truly great James Braid classic!!  With superb greens and fantastic views, a definite home advantage as there are plenty of blind shots over sand dunes covered with maram grass that just eat up your balls ... I only lost one so for me, I guess, a personal success!!

I had a great match playing with Tony Davis against their Vice Captain Ross Oliver and club Captain Paul Jinks who knowing the course so well never took a wood out of his bag.

After getting over the journey we had a very quiet start going three down virtually straight away, then, after a little revival, we managed to pull them back to be all square at the turn.  With  hardly any holes halved we found ourselves dormy two down, then after winning the seventeenth we were left with a mere 20 footer to win eighteen ... I was hoping ... no praying ... for the gimme and a halved match ... no chance ... and sadly we lost one down.   Tony a great game thank you.

Many thanks to the organisers, and although it was tough we had memorable wins from the pairings of Steve Price with late replacement Warren McDivitt, and the pairing of Geoff Anderson and Anthony Mansfield. With a half from our Lilleybrook pairing of Ed Robinson and Taras Ciuriak the match ended with a 7 ½ to 2 ½ defeat.  We felt this was a reasonable result as apparently the county has played there in the past and lost 15 nil.

After a couple of beers and a piece of cake we were off back to rejoin our ladies at Carlyon Bay and a great weekend.

Another memorable day thank you team.
