Gloucestershire Golf Captains
Gloucestershire Golf Captains VS the Gloucestershire Golf Ladies Captains.
The annual fixture between the men and the ladies of the Shire took place at Chipping Sodbury Golf Club on the 26th of September 2019.
The day saw the first groups start in the rain but thankfully it very quickly abated and the match was played in very pleasant conditions.
The course at Chipping Sodbury was presented in good condition and once again afforded us great hospitality and an excellent carvery dinner. Thanks were made to Chipping Sodbury for hosting the event.
My Partner, our Secretary Tony Davis, and I played the Ladies Captain Jackie Berry and Lynn Relph. In truth a very enjoyable day, great company and a close fought contest. The males being 3 Down after 7 Holes ! 1 down at the Turn, 2 Down after 13 and then 1 up after 17. Tony managing to hold his nerve to share a half on the 18th saw us record a 1 up win.
All of the matches were very close with largest margin being a 2 up win. This would appear to suggest that the system of Handicapping and the Equalising Shots does indeed work.
In terms of the result the Men of Gloucestershire managed an overall victory with a 7 to 1 margin. Overall a fantastic day, one which I personally enjoyed and my name will be on the list for selection next year.
