Gloucestershire Golf Captains VS Worcestershire Golf Captains. 20th Sept 2019.
Friday the 20th of September saw us return to Gloucester Golf Club for the match against our near neighbours Worcestershire.
Once again we were blessed with a fine sunny day with minimal wind. The course at Gloucester was presented in a good condition given the lack of rain of late. Along with a few other local courses, Mining Bees had made most of the bunkers their home, so a few bunkers were marked up as GUR.
Following a lunch of Sandwich and Chips the Match commenced at 1pm on a 2 Tee start. This was a very helpful format and if at all possible should be encouraged going forward.
My Partner, Gloucester Club Captain Sean Dunne, and I had a very enjoyable day playing against the Worcestershire Capt Kevin Woodham and his partner Pete. 2 Down after 2 to a Birdie and a par we managed to reach the turn 1 down. The back 9 saw us win 4 on the trot to ease home with a win. The 2nd game saw an Eagle, Eagle finish by John Christie to produce a 2 up Win for the home team.
The final result ending up 6 ½ to 1 ½ to Gloucestershire.
Well done to all that played and special thanks go to Clive Fluck our Match Manager for the day and to Keith Wood the GM at Gloucester for sorting out the excellent catering and providing 2 nearest the pin prizes: one for the Worcestershire team and one for Gloucestershire which was won by Jim Ford.
All in all another great day. Great company on and off the course and a splendid home win for myself at the club I have made a 2nd home for 25 years or so.
Thank you to all that played.
Best Regards
Paul Drinkwater.
