Gloucestershire Golf Captains VS Gwent Golf Captains - 22nd August 2019.
This home fixture against Gwent saw us visit Lydney Golf Club in The Royal Forest Of Dean !
Once again the weather was very kind and although the wind blew a little the rain kept away and the match was played out in the dry.
Lydney had changed remarkably since my last visit and was presented in very good condition. Alan Robinson told me it’s now 10 years old and of course it’s still a “work in progress” but excellent progress has been made and I made reference to this at our dinner. Lydney made us all very welcome on and off the course with excellent catering and course presentation.
In terms of the Match my Partner and I enjoyed the Company of Captain Nigel Morris and his partner Secretary Mike Hanner. The irony being both of them knew the course better than ourselves ! We had a good game along with great banter and the obligatory micky taking. An enjoyable day all round and great company.
Overall we took a hammering from our Golfing Friends from across the Severn and we lost 6 ½ to 1 ½.
Not quite what was hoped for but that’s sport, and golf in particular, for you. We will no doubt look to redress the loss next season at Tredegar Park!
Thanks to all who played especially those who stepped in at the last moment.
Thanks also to Keith Hanson for sorting the day as Match Manager for this game.
Best Regards
Paul Drinkwater.
