Gloucestershire Golf Captains vs Bedfordshire Golf Captains Friday 14th June 2019.

The Match against Bedfordshire saw us travel to Leighton Buzzard Golf Club. The weather during the days leading up to this fixture and in Gloucestershire on the day of the fixture was horrendous rain. Thankfully upon arrival and during the Match the sun came out and the Match was played on a very pleasant day.

The course had stood up well to the rain and was well presented. The catering staff excelled and a very nice Ploughmans lunch was served before the match and a lovely meal of Steak and Mushroom Pie / apple crumble followed in the evening. Our thanks and appreciation of Bedfordshire’s Hospitality was advised to the Bedfordshire Captain Chris Foster.

In terms of the Match my partner and myself played Capt Chris and the Current Leighton Buzzard Club Captain Robbie John. Some excellent golf was played and Captain Robbie generously advised us how to play the course. Normal service was unfortunately resumed for the Captain who recorded a loss. Great company and a very enjoyable round of golf was had all the same.

Thankfully others faired a lot better and we came away with an honourable draw 3 ½ to 3 ½

At the Evening Dinner we were advised that last year’s Captain of Bedfordshire Barry Paige had purchased a Trophy for this fixture and the trophy will be played for annually going forward. I did suggest that, based on away points counting double in the event of a tie, we should be presented with the trophy. This fell on deaf ears !!

Many thanks to our Match Manager Clive Fluck for sorting this fixture.

To all the Glos Team that played thank you for your attendance at this fixture the furthest we play apart from Carlyon Bay and on a Friday!

Best Regards

Paul Drinkwater.
