Ladies Weekend - Carlyon Bay 2024

The weekend started on various days with tourists arriving from Wednesday onwards. We were blessed with lovely weather once again. The sea breeze along with fantastic views over the English Channel and great company, it doesn't get much better!

The Carlyon Bay Hotel remained in excellent condition with friendly staff, helpful and cheerful as always. Needless to say that we were well looked after for our entire stay.

Unfortunately some of us picked up a sickness bug and had to retire early which took the edge of the weekend but the rest of the party battled on and made the best of it.

The GGC competitions were held from Friday to Sunday and Preident Paul extended a warm welcome to all of the GGC party during Friday's dinner before we ambled to the lounge for some hard earned refreshments!

Whilst the golfers strutted their stuff on the golf course, the non-golfing ladies did their own thing on Saturday with either a shopping/sight-seeing trip to Truro or a discounted Spa treatment.

Saturday evening saw the annual black tie drinks reception. Dressed in our finery everyone made their way to the sports bar where we were mey by President Paul with his lady Maggie. We enjoyed some canapes washed down with a few glasses of the bubbly stuff.

Captain Eric and his partner Jean had invited her daughter Wendy, son-in-law Keith and granddaughter Alysha to join us. Alysha, an accomplished pianist, created a lovely ambiance during the drinks reception.

We made our way to the restaurant where Secretary Jim, thanked Alysha on behalf of Eric and presented her with a beautiful bouquet of flowers. Following a superb meal we then moved into the lounge where Clive Jose, a fantastic singer and DJ, got most revellers showing their moves on the dance floor!

On Sunday morning, Maggie Drinkwater and Millie Broady looked after the Non-golfing Partners putting contest and in the afternoon the ladies then enyoyed a complimentary wine & cheese tasting session delivered by Peter Brennan.

Just before dinner, President Paul presented Hon Secretary Jim with an engraved hip flask and a bottle of his favourite malt whisky to test for any leaks! This was Jim's last year in the role and Paul thanked him on behalf of the GGC members for all the hard work over the years. On behalf of Captain Eric, Paul also presented Hilary with a lovely bouquet of flowers.

We then sat down to the final dinner of the trip which was followed by the all-important prize giving and the countless stories of the weekend.

Vice-Captain Nick Broady stood in for Captain Eric and presented all the prizes.

President Paul rounded off the evening with a few words and thanked everyone for participating throughout the weekend. He also commended all the staff at both the hotel and golf club for their professionalism.

Paul also thanked Jim Ford and Dereck Buttler for their hard work in the organisation of the weekend which was even more noticeable in their absence.

We departed after breakfast on the Monday morning - with 2025 in our sights..

Thanks to Shaun Pearce for his help with the scorecard adjudication and sorting out the Winners' Circle and to Taras Ciuriak for the photos of the presentation evening
