Captain's Day Friday 15th July at Broadway GC

Broadway Golf Club was the venue for my Captains Day and as there were 152 entries it was decided to split the day into two tournaments with one overall cup winner.

Bacon Rolls and coffee were on hand as the players arrived and registered, also at the registration all the members were directed towards Vicky Watkins and my partner Pat Righton where they happily relieved the guys of cash towards the raffles. (The first for the club’s junior section and the second for Prostate Cancer).

My cousin Jos Buttler England white ball Cricket Captain kindly donated a signed England cricket shirt, four ball vouchers were kindly donated by Chipping Sodbury, Knowle, Rodway Hill, Stinchcombe Hill, Lilley Brook, and Broadway. Broadway GC also gave ball vouchers for the Junior Section raffle to go with the bottle of spirit both AM & PM There were other prizes supplied by me, this raffle continued throughout the day. A grand total of £880 was raised for Prostate Cancer and £520 was raised for the Junior Section. My thanks to all the clubs who were so very generous. Thanks must go to all the GGC members for their generosity.

The 80 competitors started at 9:00AM from both tees in the 4 BBB of 85% handicap allowance. Some quality golf was played with 22 pairs breaking 40 points.

One highlight of the day was the halfway house where all the competitors enjoyed cupcakes made by Grace Dewick one of the club’s bar staff washed down with both alcoholic and soft drinks given out by all the girls, a huge thanks to Pat, Vicky, President Sheila and my daughter in law Jenny.

Thanks also must go to Broadway Golf Club for allowing me to hold my Captain’s Day at the club Jamie Blake and the rest of the green staff who presented the course in superb condition.
