G.G.C. v Dorset Match at Stinchcombe Hill GC on Thursday 28th July 2022.
Stinchcombe Hill GC was the venue where the Gloucestershire Gladiators and the Dorset Marauders met for the annual match.
A bright dry day greeted us when the teams met for a light lunch prior to the introduction of the pairs, unfortunately I missed all this because of a medical appointment.
The course was very dry and running which enhanced all the drives, the greens though were brilliant, smooth and true. Thanks to Matt Ayres and his team.
Game 1 was between myself and Forest Hills captain Terry and we took on the Dorset Captain Dave and partner Jim. We were fortunate to take an early lead following a birdie on the second, and a winning par on the third. We did not relinquish the lead and ended up 3-2 winners.
Game 2 was the partnership of Vice-Captain Geoff and Secretary Jim taking on Alan and Garry from Dorset. After a close game the Dorset pair were victorious 2-1.
Game 3 saw the pairing of Gloucester GC President John (who remembered his trousers this week) and Trevor giving lots of shots to Keith and John, but the game ended in a draw.
Game 4 Match manager Clive and his usual partner John went down 2-1 to Dorset pair Derek and Chris.
Game 5 Unfortunately Gloucestershire pairing of Paul and John were given a bit of a thumping by the Dorset, with Nigel and Ralph running out 5-4 winners.
Game 6 Lydney pairing of Derek and Brian restored the faith by bringing home a win 2-1 against Dorset pair of Terry and David.
Game 7 Dream team of Immediate past Captain Sam and Alastair carried on the winning streak by defeating the Dorset pair of David and John winning 1 up.
Game 8 we were waiting with bated breath to welcome the Brickhampton pair of Chris and Neil for a win which would have given our team a win unfortunately this did not happen as they went down 2-1 to the Dorset pair of Dave and Chris.
This gave the match to Dorset by 4½ to 3½.
After a few drinks we all sat down to a nice meal and plenty of banter. Our thanks must go to Stinchcombe Hill for allowing us to hold our match there. We look forward to regrouping next year to do battle again.
