GGC v Dorset Captains Match at Knighton Heath GC on Friday 14th July 2023

The Gloucestershire Golf Captains had quite a journey down to Dorset and met up at Knighton Heath GC, looking forward to a good match against Dorset Golf Captains. The weather was miserable, and the course was looking wet but in good condition.

The match secretaries read out the pairings during a light lunch while the rain persisted down.

We finished our lunch then Peter, the Dorset Captain, and I decided to start the match even though the weather was not letting up.

We teed off at 1pm and to be fair the rain was light-ish, but the fairways were beginning to get waterlogged as we proceeded with the match. As we finished the 6th hole we agreed to continue up to and including the 10th hole which was close to the clubhouse. After finishing the 9th hole we decided enough was enough and let the groups behind know that we indeed were finishing on the 10th hole. It was agreed between both Captains to have an Honourable half.

Overall result - Match Halved.

We then sat down to a very enjoyable meal and afterwards I passed on our thanks to the members and management of Knighton Heath GC for facilitating our event.

Both Captains did quick formal speeches and as DGC won the match last year then the new trophy introduced this year was retained/presented to Peter.

Many thanks to match secretary John Cumming and to everyone involved.
