England Golf Captains Qualifier (Ralph Crisp)
On Thursday 23rd June the GGU welcomed 50 Captains from across Gloucestershire to Minchinhampton GC for the annual England Golf Captains Qualifying (Ralph Crisp Chalice).
Earlier in the week the Avening course played host to Regional Open Qualifying so the golf course was sure to challenge the field. On offer to the winner was a spot in the England Golf Captains Final which is being played at Woodhall Spa GC in August.
Heading out in one of the early groups was the current home club Captain, Simon Sveder-Cain, who off a scratch handicap index fired a magnificent 42 points. A gross 64 (-6)! This would remain the score to beat all day and John Barrett (Cotswold Edge) got closest after a fine round which saw him finish just 1 point short of Simon on 41. In 3rd and a further point back on 40 was Clive Collier (Cotswold Hills). Three very good scores on a tricky golf course which did see some rain during the day.
We wish Simon the very best of luck when he plays in the England Golf Captains Final later this year and for the remainder of the year as Captain of Minchinhampton.
Sincere thanks go to all at Minchinhampton GC for their hospitality throughout the day and for presenting the golf course in excellent condition.
