Hon Secretary's Report

Well … Tony Davis has decided to take a well-earned rest from the Secretary/Treasurer position and concentrate on getting his handicap back to single figures! I am pleased to have been nominated to take hold of the reins going forward.

We paid tribute to Tony’s contribution at this year’s AGM and we should also thank Mike Slatter for his spell on the committee, as Immediate Past Captain, with his term of office now coming to an end.

The 2020 active membership stood at 252 including 39 “payment pending” due to the pandemic. It was encouraging to see 21 New Captains join our ranks and I know that they will be made feel at home when we eventually get back to normal play!

Our Website has been given a bit of a refresh and provides current news on any relevant topics along with Membership and Fixture information. We have made a specific effort to provide transparency wherever possible.

  • If you have any comments or suggestions for improvements then please use the email button located on "About Us - Contact” page.

  • We would also like to keep the feed of News Items flowing therefore if you have anything significant/deemed worth sharing then please get in touch and we will consider for publication.

On-line banking and the use of “Faster Payment” will be promoted from 2020 and I will also investigate the feasibility of card payment at meetings.  We will continue to accept cheque or cash for fees and clothing however we also need to enable electronic payment, where possible, to keep the handling of cash to a minimum.

A guideline on methods of payment will be published in preparation for our return to normal service.

There is always the need for Captains to act as club focal points and help in the distribution of forms & communication to GGC members who are unable to access email or internet. I will be reviewing the list of current focal points for this year and may ask for further volunteers should the need arise.

The GGC Committee will meet during the 1st week in August 2020 to further review the pandemic status in line with Government, England Golf and Gloucestershire Golf Union directives & recommendations.

We will then communicate on our decision regarding the cancellation policy for any remaining 2020 matches/meetings which will include The Ladies Weekend scheduled in October at Carlyon Bay.

I will finish by welcoming all New Captains to our Association and hope that we eventually get to take part in some form of Club/GGC golfing activities. In the meantime stay fit, safe & healthy and I look forward to seeing you at some point this year!
